2015 HIGHLAND TOUR

FROM THE PEN OF ALISON NEILSON

I have booked accommodation as follows:-

Friday 28th August - DB&B Balmacara Hotel £62 pp
Saturday 29th August B&B Torridon Inn B&B £50 pp
Sunday 30th August Inverness Room Only £39.05 pp

So - accommodation cost £151.05 pp, I haggled best I could but they wouldn't budge much its peak season and they know they can fill the rooms. NB includes dinner on first night. Torridon wanted a time for dinner because there are so many of us so I have said 7.30. Everyone should have made it over the bealach and round the coast road by then...

Trying a new venue for Inverness this time - works out slightly cheaper than the Premier Inn and closer to the town - see www.theinvernessapartments.co.uk Apartments on 2 separate sites 5 mins apart. Hotel adjacent for drinks before we disperse into the town and for breakfast in the morning.

Still to add Glenelg Ferry and van hire + fuel say another £15 per head I will confirm asap

Day 1
Meet at the shinty pitches at Invergarry as before to park the cars. Probably no need to have a very early rendezvous I will confirm nearer the time and I will check if the cafe is open for a bacon roll & coffee before we set off. Easy start and then attack the Mam Ratagan. Lunch stop is Glenelg and the Glenelg Inn stops serving lunch at 2pm but there is beer all day and a local shop. No moaning about waiting around for the ferry that is part of the charm of the trip!! Dinner at the hotel. Last year they actually ran out of Guinness. I have reminded them of this...

Day 2
The big day...the bealach. Hoping for weather and views we had previously. Lunch stop is Applecross - Applecross Inn serves food all day and there is a wee shop. Dinner at Torridon Inn

Day 3
Lunch stop in Beauly or for those opting for the longer route... lunch is for wimps. We are on the loose in Inverness for the evening.

Day 4
Depart Inverness and back to Invergarry

I have paid a deposit of £300 for Torridon I will ask for a deposit from everyone soon once I have worked out van & ferry cost and final figures. Not everyone has done the trip before so for any of the newbies who have questions just let me know. I have a couple of volunteers to share the driving with me so we will all be able to have time on the bike.
Cheers,
Alison
