Well done to Karena O'hanlon on completing her first race at gifford last saturday!.
Also doing very well were joyce , gemma, corrie, and alison who all competed in the
Scott Contessa weekend at ingliston,
Gemma got a 5th place in the crit race and Alison was 6th in a field of over 50 women. This sat the girls are doing the new Glasgow Wheelers women’s race at Garelochead.

A sizeable posse consisting of Stevie dunn , Gary cross , Scott russel , Micheal paton,
Craig moffat and Andy wilson contested the Nick hardy road race near dundee on sun the 14th april.
Despite various attempts at breakaways none of the boys succeeded in staying away
and unfortunately stevie dunn punctured and was dnf,  Typically in this category of race most of the field were content to sit it out till the finish, despite the work put in by the lads our highest finisher was Gary cross who  finished 8th, topping off a fine performance from him personally, the other guys deserved better but were tired from thier efforts and were passed by much fresher riders at the end , Nevertheless well done to winner Lewis oliphant who put in a superb solo performance to win by over a minute.

A special mention must be made for
Andrew Brown’s great performance in the Youth Tour of Scotland
here is Andrews dad's view of the event.

"
Andy was promoted by the club to ride in a Mid Scotland Cycling Association team of 4 Youth A boys in the Youth Tour of Scotland last weekend.

The YTOS is a 4 stage event held over 3 days in the Perthshire countryside around Forgandenny, near Perth. The event was attended by 72 of the top under 16 boys from all over the UK and included a team from the Irish National Squad.

The stages were:

Saturday 9 x 6.63km Road race on a hilly circuit at Forteviot
Sunday 50m + 5 lap Crit around the streets of Perth City Center followed by a Hilly TT at Forgandenny in the afternoon.
Monday (a now legendary) 16 lap Kermesse on the unclassified roads around Forgandenny and Strathalan School, taking in the hill of the the hilly TT (16 times!!!!!). Though obviously shorter, the course made the Paris Roubaix of the previous day look like a breaze, with unmade road sections, ruts and subsidence, gravel, dirt and in one spot horse poo, speed bumps and pot holes you could swim in.

To say that the MSCA team and in particular Andy exceeded expectations would be huge understatement.

Andy consolodated an excellent 16th place finish in the road race with 16th place over all in the General Classification, despite being taken out twice by crashing riders in the Perth crit. In terms of the Scottish rider classification, his 16th overall equated to 4th best Scot, behind 3 riders (and ahead of a few) on the talent development squad. A fantastic effort! The Scottish Cycling coaches certainly know him now!
"

Well done Andrew from all of the club.

Stevie dunn has recorded a fine 9th place in the amstel road race in south west scotland carrying on his fine winter form, The race was an open category event
with a quality field of riders, The race was held in awful weather on a day where other
races were cancelled .

New season new goals

Now that the reliability trials are behind us we are left to wonder whats
in store for the falkirk racing fraternity,
Judging by the form in the reliabilitys this year the usual suspects have emerged .

When he isnt fixing a flat at the side of the road! capn Stevie dunn has been steamrollering at the head of the bunch dishing out pain to all lesser mortals,
Derek simpson has been strong as he always seems to be! Gary cross always seems to maintain his strength throughout winter and is always there,
Craig moffat ? the jurys out  :-) , Neil cameron has been set back by some health problems yet still shows even when weakened, looks like he may make a bit of a comeback this year if his head is still in it! , Micheal "plunger" paton (dont ask)
will be buoyed by last years road race win and will probably want to go one better!,

scott russell, mark donaldson , stephen dickson, time to step up and set a new mark for yourselves? .

The women (burds) of falkirk bc are many in number this year and it will be interesting to see how they fare,

And good luck to the sportive riders from the club in this years events,

If i have left out names here it is only because i am losing it basically!
(not getting any younger you know!) ,

Good luck to all falkirk riders this year , and no doubt the famous (infamous?)
blue and white checks will be prominent on many of scotlands road in the coming year.

PS : If you are wondering why I wrote this I was bored, cheers (ed)
